Alexander City has more colorful, crazy, country-fried characters than a Foghorn Leghorn marathon. It would be difficult to rank native folks on zaniness because many would qualify. But if I had to start somewhere, my money would be on BRHS science teacher Emily Sassano.

Emily is not your average high school teacher. At least, not compared to teachers from my own high school experience decades ago. For example, the effervescent Emily is known for using current country music hits to explain difficult biological subjects. Meanwhile, one of my former teachers was best known for having part of a finger cut off in the classroom’s air conditioner.
