BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – LeFlore of Mobile continued to make its mark nationally with a big 72-66 win over Minnetonka, Minn., at the Target Center Shootout in Minneapolis last week.

The Rattlers (18-1) secured their No. 1 ranking in the Alabama Sports Writers prep state boys basketball rankings in the process with the win and continued to be unbeaten against in-state opponents. Defending 6A state champ Jeff Davis of Montgomery, now 16-3, stayed a close second in this week’s poll of state sports writers compiled by The Birmingham News. But the big news came in Class 5A where Wilcox-Central (17-1), under the radar early in the year, emerged in the rankings at No. 3 this week behind top-ranked Williamson (20-0), also of Mobile, and Huntsville-Butler (16-1).
