Welcome to the wonderful world of wine. For the last several months it has been the world of white wine, so with just a sliver of summer left, we need to wrap up this series and get some red wine on the table. But not so fast; we barely got started on a list of almost 20 white wines that would be great alternatives to Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay for summertime or anytime. Let’s see what’s still in the fridge.

Hmm … a half gallon of 2 percent milk; two cartons of large white eggs; a 32-ounce sports drink; a 46-ounce bottle of vegetable juice. OK, there’s an open bottle of Inniskillen Icewine, half a bottle of Crossings Sauvignon Blanc and about that much Belleruche Cotes-du-Rhone Rosé. Here we go. Three unopened bottles of white wine – Frico Bianco, Eppa White Sangria and Florensac Picpoul de Pinet, just waiting to be sampled. Yes, Picpoul de Pinet. It’s French; we’ll get to that in a minute.
