After years of limited progress in the effort to silence trains traveling through Alexander City, local officials have finally made some headway and expect the project to get underway in 2008.

Randy Thomas, community development coordinator for Alexander City, said $200,000 was appropriated to the quiet zone project in the recently approved 2007-2008 city budget. He said a private developer would pay the other half of the $400,000 project.
