Best Overall Diet - Again!

Garden-fresh ingredients are a staple on the Mediterranean Diet.

In 2017, we took our first look at the Mediterranean diet and what it meant to live the Mediterranean lifestyle. Since that time, the Mediterranean way has proven itself over and over, maintaining its credibility for promoting health and wellness. In 2018, the Mediterranean diet tied for first place, sharing the spot with the Dietary Approaches to Hypertension diet (DASH). In 2019, the DASH diet was bumped to the number two spot as the Mediterranean Diet made its debut as number one best overall.

It is important to know that this is not a diet; rather, it is a healthy lifestyle and eating pattern, a culinary tradition and cultural approach that appreciates fresh ingredients, simply prepared. The Mediterranean lifestyle evolved from the countries that border the Mediterranean Sea, including Greece, Southern Spain, Southern Italy, France and Morocco. Individual regions developed their own traditions based on availability of local produce and food, although there are overlaps in cuisine with similar nutritional benefits.
