The Pearl Serenity Garden opened for the Russell Medical's Cancer Center as of May 3. The dedication ceremony was held at 9 a.m. that morning. Â

The Pearl Serenity Garden officially opened as those who helped throughout the project cut the ribbon. The ribbon and dedication ceremony were the morning of May 3.

President and chief executive officer Jim Peace of Russell Medical Center welcomed everyone to the Pearl Serenity Garden dedication ceremony.

Executive director Tammy Jackson of Russell Hospital Foundation detailed the creation of this project from a need for the cancer center to the laying down of plans.

Walt and Ginger Woltosz, the two main donators for the project, also touched on the importance of the garden for the cancer patients, families and staff.

Previously Jackson explained the serenity garden was in dedication to the Pearl family for their ongoing support to local cancer patients through the organization AUTLIVE.

Bruce Pearl said they always thought about this garden being a place as an outdoor escape, a place to wait or eat a lunch. But during the chaplain's blessing he also realized this will likely be a place to pray as well for patients and their loved ones.

The Pearl Serenity Garden is now open as of May 3. The space was created for those of the cancer center to have an outdoor area.
