“Meaningless ritual!” That’s what I remember thinking as I watched an old news-clip of Pope Pius XII blessing a new, Italian Helicopter. There he was, walking around, vestments flying, slinging holy water on that machine, followed by cardinals, priests, choir, and, of course the Italian designers and businessmen who hoped to make lots of profit from their new model.
