Sports of all kinds can provide us with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Whether an actual competitor or just a fan, the games we play and watch usually provide the greatest stage for drama. That’s one of the many reasons we love sports so much.

A key ingredient in the dramatic development so often is injury. My mind immediately goes to the 1988 World Series and Kirk Gibson’s ninth-inning home run off Dennis Eckersley that gave the Dodgers a Game one victory.
