If I have a nerdy habit, it’s that, at the age of … well, never mind the exact number; let’s just say north of 50… I still collect baseball cards.

I’ve been fascinated by baseball – and by those rectangular pieces of cardboard – as long as I can remember. As a kid, I would go hungry at school so that I could stop at the neighborhood grocery store on the way home and spend my “lunch” money on a fistful of five- or 10-cent packs of wonder. Once, my mother found my daily stash and became so incensed at my “wasting my money” that she threw the whole lot away (actually, she just hid them from me; much to my delight, I found them later).
