U.S. Senators Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), and 34 of their Senate Republican colleagues recently reintroduced S.9, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, to preserve Title IX protections for female athletes.

In December 2024, the Biden Administration withdrew the harmful Department of Education rule that would have forced schools to allow males to compete in women’s sports—or risk losing their funding. Last month, a Kentucky federal judge struck down the Biden Administration’s broader Title IX rule, against which more than a dozen states including Alabama filed lawsuits. The Senators’ legislation aims to enact important Title IX protections for female athletes into law.
