File / TPI Edgewood Academy's Scott Philllips won his 300th game as a coach with the Wildcats on Jan. 22.

There’s a lot more to being a coach than standing on the sideline during games or drawing up plays during a timeout. It requires a different level of commitment and love for the sport and the team, plus a ton of behind-the-scenes work that garners little to no recognition. When a coach does receive recognition, oftentimes it is a big deal. 

With his father, Buzz Phillips, being a long-time basketball coach and athletic director at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Edgewood Academy athletic director and basketball coach Scott Phillips understood the level of commitment and responsibility being a coach requires.
