First Wetumpka tennis players selected to North-South

Tennis is not the most popular sport in the country, let alone the state or even Elmore County. Over time and especially in Wetumpka, tennis has grown as more and more kids are interested in taking on the challenge. The growth of the sport hit a major milestone this week as Wetumpka sent two of its tennis players, Mark Kasen Evans and Mary Ellis Baker, to the AHSAA’s North-South All-Stars. Evans and Baker were the first Wetumpka tennis players to ever be selected for the event, which has had tennis competitions since 2021. 

“When they told me no one’s ever done this before, I knew I had to go for it and do it,” Baker said. “Sometimes the fears get the best of me, my anxiety, but I knew I had to go for it because it’s a big opportunity for Wetumpka.”
