Even with various injuries hindering the Indians, Wetumpka’s boys and girls wrestlers have shown what it means to be ‘Gold-blooded’ this season. 

After the AHSAA Class 6A South Sectionals, five Wetumpka wrestlers — four boys and one girl — punched their tickets to compete for individual state titles in Huntsville last week. Three ended up finding the podium, including one who returned to Wetumpka as a newly-minted state champion.

Submitted / TPI Wetumpka's Kolby Smith, a freshman at 113, won a Class 6A state title in his first year as a starter for the Indians. Smith finished the season 39-2.
