In the new age of college football, where NIL and the transfer portal underlie each decision made, high school athletes and coaches are navigating a constantly changing landscape. At Wetumpka, however, athletic director and football coach Bear Woods has things down to a science: email blasts, social media DMs, in-person meetings, recruiting fairs and more.

Woods’s efforts have resulted in more than 26 offers for junior tight end Kaleb Ballard alone, plus interest in several other Wetumpka football players resulting in invitations to summer camps.

File / TPI Wetumpka athletes’ stock has been consistently on the rise since head coach and athletic director Bear Woods took over in 2021. That hard work has culminated in junior tight end Kaleb Ballard receiving over 25 offers to play NCAA Division I football. The attention Ballard has received has translated to his teammates also receiving attention from college coaches.
