The Dadeville City Council prepared for its upcoming meeting with a work session Tuesday night.

Members of the planning and zoning committee were present to discuss and answer questions about a ground disturbance proposal for the council to consider. Planning and zoning board chair Mitzy Hidding said much of the proposal is what is already required by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. She said with a 1 acre or larger lot, ADEM requires permitting and all kinds of plans and development. She said being located near Sandy Creek and Lake Martin, there are other requirements of ADEM regarding ground disturbance. Minor land activities, such as putting in a pool and private and commercial forestry activities are exempt. However, Hiding said the other items in the proposal are common sense about protecting the run-off, protecting a neighbor and similar items. The goal of the proposal is to have a clear regulatory framework.
