Dadeville’s John Fussell knows what it takes to lead a successful baseball program, and now it’s his turn to do so with the Tigers. He’s made stops at Horseshoe Bend, Prattville Christian Academy, Benjamin Russell and Straughn, serving in roles from assistant coach all the way up to head coach — while still helping out with the football team wherever he goes.

Straughn was his first head baseball coach job through his career, and it was there where he won three area championships and even took his team to the Final Four with a record 39-11 during the 2010-2011 season. But following his tenure there, Fussell put more of his focus into football, where he’s been serving as the defensive coordinator at both Benjamin Russell and Dadeville for the last few years. But even so, he can’t wait to get back in the dugout this year.
