A home and property with significant history in Wetumpka, Elmore County and the South was honored by the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.

The Florence Golson Bateman House in the 300 Block of Government Street was built in 1830 by Elisha Cain for his daughter Martha. The property dates back further. Historians say a tree that once stood on the property was the site where Andrew Jackson met with Native Americans while negotiating a treaty with them. It is the same treaty that references the fall line in the Coosa River. May Eason has owned and lived in the home since 2015.
