A corrections officer is back to work after he was assaulted by an inmate in the Elmore County Jail.

In a preliminary hearing before Elmore County District Judge Glen Goggans on Wednesday, Elmore County corrections officer Zylan Foulks said he was serving meals in one of the pods of the jail on Dec. 22, 2025, when an inmate asked for a second tray belonging to inmate Terrell Brent Shirley, 47, of Prattville. Foulks told the inmate he needed to check with Shirley who acknowledged it was OK from the second tier of the jail pod.
