Sports, like life, is a journey of ups and downs — injuries, upsets, successes and long hours spent working. 

Wetumpka’s most recent state champion, JD Denmark, has had a journey that’s been much like that. Denmark, a senior, topped the podium for AHSAA’s Class 6A indoor shot put with a throw of 52-01.72. The throw broke a previous record of 47 feet set by Denmark last season and became the new school record as well as his personal best.
