Anybody that is considered middle-aged or older has a story about Sept. 11, 2001.

Today the United States remembers the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack on American soil, and if you’re at least a Gen X’er, you probably clearly remember where you were and what you were doing that fateful morning a quarter of a century ago.

This painting hangs in Alexander City Fire Department Station 1. According to fire chief Reese McAlister, it’s how they honor the firefighters who sacrificed their lives on 9/11 every day.
