When Central Alabama Community College graduate Wes Talton did an about face and began teaching at the school he graduated from, he probably had no idea he would one day be given an award.

Talton, who was recently honored with a 2026 Chancellor Award for Academics, began his higher education journey at CACC, earning an associate degree before transferring to Auburn University. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in social science education, completed his teaching internship at Auburn High School. While teaching in the Tallapoosa County Schools system, he earned his master’s in history from the University of West Alabama. The same year, in 2016, he was named Tallapoosa County Schools Teacher of the Year.
