With the new fiscal year beginning in just a few weeks, Alexander City finance director Romy Stamps gave the city council its first look at the 2027 budget and a quick review of the 2026 budget.
“For the general fund to date, we have received about $25.83 million in revenue,” Stamps said during the council meeting last week. “That's 80% of what was budgeted for FY ‘26. Why is it only 80% when right now we should be at about 92%? … The way taxes work, you pay them in one month, but we don't receive them til the next month. So we haven't received our August and September taxes. We won't receive all of that until the end of October.”

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and
pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
