Though the Lake Martin Animal Shelter received the same approximate numbers of animals each month in 2011 as in 2010, Manager Mia Chandler said she noticed two striking differences: a 4 percent decrease in euthanasia and fewer litters.

“In all honesty, there wasn’t any particular month that was exceptionally high or low from the previous year, but because of adoptions, we’ve not had to euthanize as many,” Chandler said.
