Tallapoosa County probate office warns of scam text

The Tallapoosa County probate office is warning residents about a fraudulent text message scam circulating in the region, which falsely claims individuals’ driver’s licenses will be suspended unless they immediately pay a fine. The warning comes in response to multiple calls received by the probate office this week from concerned citizens who were targeted by this scam.

“This scam is designed to frighten and pressure people into providing personal information or making payments under false pretenses,” Tallapoosa County Probate Judge Talmadge East said in a press release. “No legitimate government agency will ever contact you via unsolicited text message to threaten license suspension or demand fines.”
