Child saved after car plunges into river at Wetumpka during police chase

Three people were pulled from the Coosa River in Wetumpka, including a 2-year-old child, after a car plunged into the water at Gold Star Park during a police chase Thursday night.

According to eyewitnesses, law enforcement officials took two adults, one male and one female, into custody. Another eyewitness said an unidentified man dove into the water and saved the child. Several media reports said the chase started at Tutwiler Prison for Women with Department of Corrections officers pursuing the vehicle.
