Decapitating flies attacking unsuspecting victims by laying eggs in their heads seems like the making of a sci-fi thriller or at least something to be alarmed about. But, that is not the case when the victims are imported fire ants.

Imported fire ants first came to Alabama in 1918, brought up from South America by ships coming to port in Mobile. Since then the population has grown to the extreme of 40 to 80 mounds per acre in less populated areas.
