Two years ago Alabama lawmakers passed legislation to give themselves an annual raise to keep pace with rate of inflation, and on April 1 that pay increase was implemented for the first time sparking controversy.

In response several lawmakers, including Sen. Ted Little, declined to accept the money citing the current economic conditions their constituents are facing. Tuesday Tallapoosa County Rep. Betty Carol Graham announced she too would decline the raise.
