In 1776, 13 colonies declared their independence from England. Now, 229 years later we celebrate that independence. While most people associate Fourth of July with cookouts, fireworks and playing on the lake, it is important to remember the reason we celebrate. If it were not for the Declaration of Independence and the ensuing Revolutionary War, we would not be the United States of America and not have the freedoms millions of men and women have died for to protect.

The United States is one of the greatest places in the world, where we can criticize our political leaders, we can speak out against injustices and as a newspaper, we can print the truth all without fear.
