Indians fire back at Strange

Accusing Attorney General Luther Strange of an “end run around federal law,” the Poarch Band of Creek Indians asked a federal judge to dismiss the state’s lawsuit against the tribe’s electronic gambling operations.

In a 12-page motion to dismiss filed last week in the U.S. Middle District Northern Division in Montgomery, the tribe said Strange’s lawsuit filed in Elmore County Circuit Court was an attempt to “disregard the sovereignty and jurisdictional authority of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, a federally recognized Indian Tribe.
