As snow covered the ground on Saturday morning, high school officials were vindicated for their choice to cancel local sporting events.

Nick Tucker, the wrestling coach at Benjamin Russell, said as late as 8 p.m. Friday night that the team’s matches in Opelika would go on as scheduled. Saturday morning, however, Tucker checked the weather report and realized it wasn’t worth the risk.
