My first experience with a rod and reel was with a cheap bait-casting reel on a three-foot fiberglass rod. That’s all I could afford on my grass-cutting money. Later on, Santa brought me a Zebco 33 on a six-foot rod.

It was not until I finished college that I was reintroduced to the short fiberglass rod.
