When Gov. Riley announced his intentions to run for Governor he was about to finish his six years in Congress. During his days in Washington his voting record was very conservative. In fact his voting record was almost identical to Newt Gingrich’s, the Republican Speaker. After his announcement to run for governor he promised a new day was coming to Alabama with creditability and accountability in state government. I thought that better times were ahead for us, but soon found that his platform consisted of him telling us to go on the Internet or read one of his small books containing his plans. These small plan books could hardly be found. He won the election by 3,000 votes, including my own.
