Costa Rica's President Rodrigo Chaves called for ridding the western hemisphere of communism moments after his government cut ties with Cuba

Costa Rica on Wednesday closed its embassy in Havana and told Cuba's communist authorities to pull their diplomats from Costa Rica.

"We have to clean out communists from the hemisphere," Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves declared after the diplomatic rupture.
