(The Center Square) - The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments in a case that could determine the future of legal actions over energy companies' contributions to climate change.

Justices on the high court said they will hear Suncor v. Boulder County Commissioners Oct. 5, the first day of oral arguments in its upcoming term. The case, based out of Colorado, could determine whether local and state governments can make financial claims against international energy companies for contributing to climate change.
