It’s no secret stray dogs have always been an issue in Tallapoosa County.

There are too many dogs in need and not enough space in the shelter. There’s only one shelter, the Lake Martin Animal Shelter, serving the entire county, and it is limited in space and capacity. LMAS does an excellent job with its resources, but it can only do so much. Over the last few years, other rescues like Black Dog Rescue and Lake Martin Animal Sanctuary have become more and more visible.
