Here’s a homemade terminology refresher right at the outset, since “touration” is part of the title: As noted in previous installments of this column, a “vacation” is an out-of-town experience in which participants can relax and do whatever they want to do at their own pace. On the other hand, a “touration” is one of those hectic sojourns where a lot of tourist attractions are visited in fairly rapid order, interpolating a lot of hurry-up-and-wait occasions.

Visits to theme parks in central Florida and elsewhere are the definitive examples of tourations, but journeys to historical sites, particularly if there are a lot of them in the same area, can wear folks out, as well…and nobody’s getting any younger.
