On Thursday, NBA insider Shams Charania reported NBA commissioner Adam Silver informed the league’s 30 general managers of plans to enact anti-tanking rule changes for next season.

Tanking describes a team’s intentional decision to underperform or lose games in order to receive better odds of obtaining an ideal draft position — and thus a better player — via the draft lottery system. The practice has been around the league in some form or fashion for most of the common era, but is it really the biggest problem facing the NBA?
