PHOTOS: Wetumpka softball scrapes out win over Holtville

On Monday night, Wetumpka’s softball team — now ranked No. 15 in the country after defeating Thompson last week — pulled out of a close call against county foe, the Holtville Bulldogs, to win their 30th game of the season. In the pitcher’s circle, three Indian pitchers combined for seven innings of play. Abigail Adams started things off for the first two innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs, one walk with zero strikeouts. Sophie Arant came in as relief for one inning, gathering one strikeout while allowing two hits and one earned run. Wetumpka’s ace, Lalah Culpepper, closed things out for the Indians as the Bulldogs’ offense refused to abate, giving up just two hits and zero runs despite allowing two walks.

On offense, the Indians totaled 10 hits to Holtville’s seven. Lexie Smith, Taylor Carlisle, Alyssa Brown and Arant each contributed two hits. Smith and Arant each added an RBI.
