History was made for the Reeltown wrestling team this past weekend. In total, the team sent four wrestlers to the state with some of the expected names amongst the bunch — Drake Wood, Justin Thomas and Brodie Jones. But for the first time in school history, Lilian Johnston will be making it to state as the first girls wrestler to accomplish the feat.

After receiving a bye in the championship round, Johnston (145 pounds) already had her spot in the quarterfinals locked up, pitting her against Fultondale’s Kinzlee Turner. And it took practically no time at all for Johnston to advance to the semis, flattening Turner in just a little over a minute. However, the semifinals brought forth a new challenge for Johnston.
