Wondering about drinking water was no more for the Lake Martin-Dadeville Area Kiwanis Club.
On Thursday, the club welcomed Steve Newton, senior civil engineer at TTL civil engineering, to talk about all things drinking water. Newton’s expertise spans back 50 years. In 1976, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering from Auburn University. His career in the field began in 1978 working for a civil engineering company after working at AU. He has also served as a project manager for projects in Alexander City, which includes moving the Hillabee Water Treatment Plant to where it currently resides today. Additionally, he worked on the waterlines that come across the Tallapoosa River toward Dadeville. In 2007 when Lake Martin did not fill up and the level was dangerously low, Newton designed a floating water pump.
