While songwriters from all over performed at this year’s Lake Martin Songwriters Festival, the Locals Stage might have been the best way to launch the 4-day event.
To be on the stage, the locals were required to be within a 50-mile radius of downtown Dadeville. Singer-songwriters Micheal Jay Hughes, Alex Walker and married duo Cherry Avenue took the stage at Lake Martin Pizza Co. to perform their original music. Hughes described his music as traditional ‘90s country while Walker said he could not put a label on his sound, however, he said many have described it as indie. Cherry Avenue, which consists of Erika Catt and Adam Catt, make country music, but are currently finding that nice medium of a Christian-country genre. The pair met in college while attending Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee. Its location — 324 Cherry Ave. Currently, Cherry Avenue is working to release their country album, but have grown to love playing in churches and Adam said he is excited to produce the musical sound he keeps hearing in his head.
