Tallapoosa and Coosa counties had some of the highest three-year infant mortality rates in the state, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

For the years 2009-2011, Coosa County saw a rate of 18.1 deaths per 1,000 live births, the highest in the state. Tallapoosa County had a rate of 13.8, tying it for second highest along with Bibb and Greene.
