Cliff Williams / TPI Judge Bill Lewis speaks after taking the office to serve on the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals. Last week Lewis was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as district judge for the Middle District of Alabama of the federal court system.

Lewis is now a district judge for the Middle District of Alabama after a 58-40 Monday vote of the U.S. Senate. Lewis was nominated to the federal bench by President Donald Trump. Lewis testified in front of the judicial committee of the U.S. Senate during a confirmation hearing in September.
