Ft. Toulouse French Encampment

Cliff Williams / TPI

Canons and muskets fired at Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson this past weekend. And no, the French were not trying to hold off the British and Gen. Andrew Jackson had not come back to life.

Instead, it was the annual French and Indian War Encampment hosted by Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson and the Alabama Historical Commission. The event allows visitors to learn more about the Wetumpka area during the 1750s through the main protagonists of the French and Indian War — France, Britain and their American-Indian allies. It features living history demonstrations of military, Indian and civilian life.
