Man gets 18 months in prison for stealing, driving golf cart

It was an hour-long ride north along U.S. Highway 231 Wetumpka in December 2023 for James Williams.

The 36-year-old from Alabaster had been seen on surveillance video at Wind Creek Casino and Hotel Wetumpka inspecting a golf cart in the VIP parking area before driving it away. According to court documents, Williams was found by the Wetumpka Police Department about 5 miles away in Wallsboro with methamphetamines and glass pipes in his possession. He was soon charged with first-degree theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
