Crosby wins Edgewood Rotary speaking contest, advances to final competition

Edgewood Academy senior Elizabeth Crosby won her school’s portion of the Wetumpka Rotary Club speaking contest Monday with her speech on minimum wage and small business owners. Crosby will move on to face the winner of next week’s Wetumpka High School portion in the finals on Feb. 27. The winner will receive $1,000 while the runner-up will receive $500.

Edgewood senior Elizabeth Crosby, speaking on the topic “Is today’s minimum wage too low? How would an increase affect small business owners?” won the Edgewood Academy portion of the Wetumpka Rotary Club’s annual speaking contest Monday afternoon at Wind Creek Casino.

Crosby, the daughter of Jonathan and Jane Crosby, bested two fellow Edgewood seniors – Sarah Grace Ellis, who spoke on the viability of print media in the digital age, and Grace Thornton, who addressed gun control.
