Yancey Joe Mitchell III is gone but his life’s works live on in Wetumpka, Elmore County and beyond.
Mitchell died Jan. 16 at the age of 71. He was a deacon at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Wetumpka. His celebration of life service filled the large sanctuary at True Divine Baptist Church in Montgomery and everyone spoke highly of Mitchell. Some sang and preached. Others shared stories of Mitchell’s passion and fire but also his compassion. Many of those stories included family members and friends who worked with Mitchell at Hillside Memorial and Gardens in Wetumpka. It’s a funeral service business he started in 1994.
