It’s become an annual event for Wendell Saxon and his wife Yvonne to announce winners of the Black History essay and poster contest for Elmore County Schools. Last month they announced the winners of the poster contest. Last week the winners of the middle and high school essay contests were announced.

The husband and wife started the initiative six years ago to give teachers an opportunity to bring new lessons into the classroom and reward students. It encourages students to learn some of the achievements of Black people throughout history.
