Wetumpka man sentenced in sex sting operation

The prison sentence for a Wetumpka man could have been a lot harsher following his guilty plea to electronic solicitation of a child.

Tavares Murphy was 22 last year when he responded to an online advertisement to have sex with young females in the Elmore County portion of Prattville. It was a sting operation by the Prattville Police Department that also netted an Alabaster man. According to court records,  Isaiah Smith, 30, is currently serving eight years in prison for the same circumstances surrounding the March 2025 police operation.
