By the end of 2005, Alabama will begin issuing the most secure driver’s license and identification card format ever issued in the state.

The new design introduces several new technologically advanced features including a two-dimensional barcode, magnetic strip, digitized portrait and signature, ultraviolet watermark image and a new durable laminate coating. In addition, the state will issue a new, vertically designed card for residents under age 21 at the time of issuance.
